Special Policy Sheet

REP. JAMES CLYBURN (D-SC)
RECEIVES THE HOUSE WHIP

Discrimination Issues.  CIS 41 §101, Reg. ID 52942, with Mental Health Client Focus constitutes an innovative arrangement aimed especially for teaching mental health clients in a ‘client culture’ environment. See the course flyer for some detail. The Discrimination Dilemma talk by former County Patients Rights Advocate Alison Brunner elaborates on that.

Civility.  While you do not need to be a current or former mental health client to take this section, you are expected to be respectful in dealing with other students who are mental health clients. Everybody is expected to be respectful to everybody. That pertains in general, but it is especially targeted at the discriminatory social conditions that affect mental health clients. I intend to promote actively a civil environment in the classroom.

Beauty Path.  The Vision behind this Section is that we want to help construct the way for mental health clients to

  • have real lives, &
  • become technically skilled members of the Silicon Valley workforce.

Education With a New Attitude.  SJCC wants to be sensitive to the stresses students face.  However, this still does not happen as we’d like. The instructor reserves the right to special support for individuals facing stress and also to engage critically ‘old’ attitudes which contradict a positive classroom environment.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR RESPECT FOR THESE CONCERNS
